Our Educational Excellence
Excellence In Learning At The Elementary Level (K-6)
At Green Dome Islamic School, we are dedicated to ensuring that your child receives a top-tier education focused on high achievement for every student. Our passionate and committed staff works diligently to provide a learning environment where every student thrives through innovative, student-centered teaching methods. We are proud of the progress we’ve made in offering a high standard of education that helps every child reach their fullest potential.
To achieve our goal of academic excellence, Green Dome Islamic School emphasizes literacy, numeracy, and science across all grade levels. For our elementary students (Kindergarten to Grade 6), we use a balanced literacy approach that focuses on all four strands of language arts: reading, writing, oral communication, and media literacy. Achievement in each of these areas is built upon understanding, application, communication, and critical thinking. In the classroom, you will see these approaches in action through read-alouds, shared reading, literacy stations, and interactive conferencing, as well as student-led presentations. Our numeracy approach is equally tailored to the individual needs of each student, offering differentiated instruction that focuses on problem-solving, reasoning, communication, and mental mathematics. Our science program is inquiry-based, designed to foster curiosity through exploration and problem-solving, incorporating technology to enhance learning.
At the heart of our academic experience at Green Dome is our Quran and Islamic Studies program, which sets us apart from many other schools. We aim to bring our faith and teachings to life, starting with an understanding of the Holy Quran. Our Quranic Arabic program is designed to engage students with the Quran in a meaningful way, encouraging them to read and understand it as it was revealed. This program emphasizes tajweed and Quranic memorization, allowing students to connect deeply with the Quran. Additionally, our comprehensive Islamic Studies program, developed in partnership with Safar Publications from the UK, covers Aqidah, Fiqh, History, Sirah, and personal character development.
Our elementary level is divided into two divisions
Division One • Kindergarten (Must be 5 years old by December 31), Grades 1-3
Division Two • Grade 4 to Grade 6

Excellence In Learning At The Junior High (Grade 7)
At Green Dome Islamic School, the Junior High division continues our commitment to academic excellence while fostering the practice of exemplary Islamic character. Our goal is to ensure that by the time our students graduate from Grade 9, they will be academically proficient, embody beautiful Islamic values, and have developed strong relationships with their peers and teachers—creating a tight-knit community grounded in an Islamic Canadian identity.
The Junior High years are a time of significant growth, marked by physiological, emotional, and intellectual development. At this stage, building positive relationships is essential, and we pride ourselves on fostering an environment where these connections thrive. Through practices such as community circles, mentoring, and restorative practices, we create a safe, caring, and supportive environment for our students. The relationships our students form during this time will serve them well as they transition into high school and beyond.
In our Junior High division, we provide the full range of core subjects as required by Alberta Education, with a higher level of expectation that encourages inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, and the development of ethical citizenship. Additionally, Islamic Studies and Qur’anic Studies courses remain integral to our curriculum, helping to strengthen the spiritual foundation of our students.
As students progress through our Junior High program, we continue to offer a variety of opportunities to foster creativity, physical well-being, and community service. Through project-based learning, extracurricular activities, and a student-centered approach to instruction and assessment, we encourage students to reach their full potential in all areas—intellectual, social, moral, physical, creative, emotional, and personal.
Islamic Studies And Character Education
At Green Dome Islamic School, we base our teachings on the universal and moral values of Islam, ensuring that these core principles are woven throughout all subjects and aspects of school life. Our foundational Islamic values are emphasized daily, starting with morning duas and followed by the afternoon prayer (Dhuhr).
Our character education program centers around four virtues that guide the personal and academic growth of our students: Wisdom, Courage, Temperance, and Justice. At Green Dome, we instill the importance of Wisdom, teaching students how to discern right from wrong, and to have the Courage to act upon it. We guide them in developing Temperance, encouraging moderation that leads to patience, tolerance, generosity, and humility. Finally, we promote Justice, teaching students to interact with kindness, respect, and fairness at all times, both in the classroom and in the wider community, including during sports and field trips.
An integral part of student life at Green Dome is the daily practice of faith through prayer, as well as the application of Islamic principles in real-world contexts. Our students engage in annual activities such as Islamic History Month, World Hijab Day, Black History Month (with an emphasis on Historical Black Muslims), Qur’an competitions, Islamic charity initiatives, Ramadan and Eid celebrations, and more providing a holistic experience of faith in action.
Islamic Studies Program • At Green Dome Islamic School, our Islamic Studies Program aims to instill a love for Allah (SWT) and the Prophetic example, fostering Taqwa in students. The program provides daily instruction in three core areas: Islamic Studies, Qur’anic Studies, and the Arabic Language. Our Islamic Studies curriculum is based on Safar Publications’ comprehensive Islam series, which includes textbooks, workbooks, and online resources. Students learn essential topics such as Aqidah, Fiqh, Islamic history, Sirah, and personal development. As they advance, they develop a deeper understanding of the pillars of faith, worship practices (Ibadat), the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and the stories of other prophets. The curriculum also introduces students to Islamic history and highlights contemporary Muslim contributions.
Beyond structured lessons, we integrate Islamic teachings into all aspects of the school day. Muslim homeroom teachers incorporate Islamic values across subjects, ensuring that faith is not confined to religious studies but is woven into English, Science, Social Studies, and more. This holistic approach helps students consistently engage with Islamic principles, fostering an environment where their faith is lived and understood in every aspect of their education.

Arabic Language Learning And Quran
At Green Dome Islamic School, we emphasize the importance of Arabic language learning as a key skill that enhances students' speaking and vocabulary abilities. It is also essential for a deeper understanding of the Holy Qur'an, allowing students to connect with the divine message in its original language.
Our Arabic Language Program is offered from Kindergarten through to Grade 4, providing students with the opportunity to learn Arabic as a Foreign Language. The curriculum is delivered primarily in Arabic, with English used when necessary to support understanding. The learning outcomes for Arabic at each grade level are tailored to ensure that students develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes expected at their respective levels, with individualized attention given to each student's pace and progress. The curriculum is designed around engaging and relevant topics that resonate with the students, fostering meaningful and interactive learning experiences.
Central to our mission is to connect students to the most sacred text, the Qur'an, which forms the foundation of our faith. Beginning from Kindergarten to Grade 4, students are introduced to reading and reciting the Qur'an with proper tajweed (pronunciation rules). They also begin memorizing selected surahs, with the goal of memorizing Juz Amma by the end of Grade 4. To ensure a personalized approach, students are grouped according to their progress, allowing them to continue their memorization at their own pace.
Starting in Grade 5, our Qur'anic studies evolves into a Quranic Arabic program inspired by the teachings of Nouman Ali Khan’s Bayyinah Institute and supported by our partnership with GetQuranic.com. This approach allows students to engage with the Qur'an in a deeper way, understanding the meanings behind the verses they recite. The aim is to empower our students to open the Qur'an, read any surah, and understand its message in the original Arabic, enriching their spiritual connection with the text.
At Green Dome Islamic School, our Arabic and Qur'anic programs work in tandem to foster both linguistic proficiency and spiritual growth, ensuring that our students are well-equipped to understand and engage with the Holy Qur'an.
The 21st Century Learner • Driving Learning Through Technology
At Green Dome Islamic School, we understand that the integration of technology is essential in preparing our students for the demands of the modern world. We are committed to providing a learning environment that fosters growth and creativity, ensuring that technology plays a vital role in our students' academic journeys.
Students have access to a mobile Chromebook cart, promoting digital literacy and facilitating engaging, interactive lessons. Interactive teaching tools, such as projectors and large-screen TVs, are available in each classroom to ensure optimal, student-centered teaching methods.
We recognize the transformative potential that technology offers both students and staff. With these resources, students can engage in a wide range of dynamic learning experiences that build essential competencies, including critical thinking, problem-solving, information management, creativity, collaboration, and cultural and global awareness.
At Green Dome Islamic School, we are proud to empower our students to become 21st-century learners—global citizens who are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in an interconnected world, while remaining rooted in Islamic values.
